Care Instructions

The Piston is easy to care for! The brass will naturally patina over time for a unique personalised look, but if you prefer the original look some metal polish and a lint free cloth will bring back the shine.

Avoid dropping the Piston pin on hard surfaces, as this will affect it's performance.

Do not get the Piston wet.

Palm Sized Pneumatics

No springs, no magnets, just pure, unadulterated precision pneumatics! A palm sized pneumatic mechanism you can fiddle with single-handedly for hours. The cutting edge of portable satisfaction, using only air and your fingers to create silky smooth engineering magic.

Aerodynamic Bearing

Experiment with an aerodynamic bearing. Spinning the housing allows a thin cushion of air to form between the Piston pin and the cylinder block, creating a friction free spin that's momentarily suspended in air.

Fidgeting With MetMo Piston

Silky Smooth

The ultimate precision fit. A perfectly precision reamed hole and an exquisitely machined shaft come together to provide a smooth motion for endless satisfaction and tactile feedback.

Silent Operation

Akin to clicking a pen, but without driving everyone around you crazy! Piston is only driven by air, so the motion is totally silent. How many compressions per minute can you get it to?

Endless Spinning

Piston spins with no mechanical restraint. Constantly worrying about thermal expansion affecting your bearings will be a thing of the past. Phew!

A Desk Marvel

A great looking piece of kit on your desk. We use high tensile brass for that well aged and classic executive look. Keeping your desk looking professional and creating intrigue in the hearts of all those who pass by.

The Satisfaction Zone

Become one with your inner piston. Watch the Piston slowly descend into the cylinder block, feel the satisfaction of the perfect motion, and become a zen master in the ways of the Piston.

Fidgeting with MetMo Piston

Fidget One Handed

Fidget away, all day long. Only requiring one hand, Piston leaves your other hand free so you can still work on what matters. Perfect for desk entertainment and focus.

Pressure Release Valve

There's more under the hood than meets the eye. Take control of your Piston and adjust the drop speed and rebound pressure, so you can set a fast drop or tighten it right up for a satisfying slow drop, it's a whole new way to play with air.

Precision Engineering

Piston is only achievable by Precision CNC engineering. Each part is made using the same machines that are used to create high performance engines.

When you press on Piston you can feel the air pressure and nothing else, just two perfectly matched pieces of metal passing each other so close that not even air can escape!

MetMo Piston Launching under pneumatic pressure

Pneumatic Launch!

Ready to experiment with a pneumatic launch? We thought so! The Piston can compress air so effectively that you can launch it from the chamber with a satisfying pop*. Be sure to catch your newly airborne Piston, and repeat. Once perfected, you'll have one very unique party trick and everyone will wonder how it works!

Solid Weight

Made from a solid billet of brass. The piston feels like a premium piece of engineering in your hand (probably because it is). They don’t make them like this anymore, although it's arguable if they ever did in the first place… and as a bonus it can double as a paper weight!

Natural Patinas

Pure unadulterated brass. Left alone it will naturally patina to develop in a way that is personal to you, reacting naturally to the oils in your skin to create unique patterns. If that's not the look for you, it's easy to bring back to a new lustre with just a quick polish.

Easy To Maintain

Piston can be fully disassembled. With simple mechanical parts, the Piston is designed to be fully stripped down for easy maintenance so it can be kept in top condition and last a lifetime. Like a well aged and cared for vintage car, minus the leaded fuel.

Inspiration and Patent Behind MetMo Piston

Aerodynamic Bearings

Aerodynamic what now? Back in the early 1800's, Robert Wills theorised how compressed air could be used to bear varying loads. Back then precision engineering was in its infancy, but fast forward to the 1960's and air bearings (as they're commonly known) were used in everything from hard drives to satellites to remove friction from precision mechanisms. It was only in 2024 when MetMo finally used the concept for what it was destined for; really satisfying fiddling.

Why It Costs £59

Precision ain't cheap. Precision simply isn't possible without skills, knowledge, and a whole heap of experience, along with specialised machinery and tooling of course.

To create products to our strict specifications takes all of the above, plus a large dose of patience and care. This is why you won't find many other products produced in this way, as it's usually reserved for automotive and aerospace.

Who's It For?

Made for designers, engineers, thinkers, and anyone who wants to just take a moment to focus, relieve stress or play around. On the surface MetMo Piston is simple, but to anyone who appreciates engineering, Piston will stand as a testament to the engineers that laid our foundations, forging their dreams of precision into physical reality.

Mega Brass

High Tensile Brass, codename: HTB1 (not to be confused with THB1, a type of truncated haemoglobin, which is terrible to machine)

We chose this grade primarily for its wear resistance to make sure it holds up to even the most frantic of pumping without losing it's tolerance. Pump hard and pump fast my friends.

The Mechanics

Intentional Simplicity. Rather than adding features, Piston focuses on doing one thing, really damn well. Creating a perfect mechanism you can enjoy for years to come.

Why Does Piston Exist?

Born from danger. Before Piston, came Danger Knife, the world's most dangerous pneumatic craft knife. This totally irresponsible design has been seen by millions on social media and your love of this insane concept paved the way for our much safer (and less lawsuit-y) MetMo Piston.
