A 5-In-1 Clamping Machine

The Challenge: Create The Ultimate EDC Locking Grip.

A whole new kind of tool not not seen since 1915. This Pocket machine, wrenches, pinches, clamps down and holds fast, harnessing the power of a vice in a light weight pocket tool.

With a unique blend of double ended clampy-ness, super satisfying mechanical motion, and the ability to clamp the life out of unsuspecting fingers (but in a good way of course) using some of the most advanced materials available to mere mortals, we've made that challenging dream a reality. From clamping nuts to prying nails, Pocket Grip's got you covered.

Packs a Punch

MetMo Pocket Grip packs five tools in one; a parallel wrench (spanner), pliers, hex driver, tap, and a clamp so you can carry less and do more. The perfect pocket multi-tool inspired by apparatus of old, that focuses on being a great tool first.

What Can It Do?

Where to start?! Use as a wrench to quickly attack a nut of any size or shape, clamp a miniature to glue an awkward spot, or use the pliers to lever out a rusty nail.

Work on your bike, car, or even roller blades! Whatever you're doing, the MetMo Pocket Grip will keep you moving.

Need to hold a dragon steady? It might happen... but seriously, it can hold any arrangement of difficult shapes steady for you to file, paint, cut, drill, weld, or whatever you need. We're giving you that portable third hand you've always wanted, but made of solid metal.

The Perfect Addition to Your Daily Carry

The ultimate EDC fast action parallel clamp: Pocket Grip chomps and locks on all your favourite coplanar items... But let's face it, outside the world of nuts and bolts, most things that we need to clamp are not perfectly parallel.

Now you can get a grip on everything from seized fittings and rusty nails to awkward 3D prints and stubborn glue lids!

Why Have We Created MetMo Pocket Grip?

Standard tools like a pocket knife, pen, flashlight, and multitool are common carry items, but for us the most overlooked tools missing from every EDC are a great set of pliers and a wrench that doesn't rip your hand off when you try use it!

Pocket Grip enters the room (and woos everyone who sees it).

We didn't stop there! In pursuit of creating the ultimate grippy/clampy tool we brought in our fractal based expertise and developed an adaptive jaw that allows you to grip all kinds of funky shapes and awkward nuts, all without breaking a tooth.

Who's It For?

Anyone with pockets and a dream. Built to travel with you, Pocket Grip is for the fixers, the makers, and anyone who appreciates the awesome world of precision engineering.

3D printing, model making, fixing things around the house, a completely unnecessary phone stand, or just want people to marvel at your new pocket wonder as they clamp their own finger… trust me it’s the first thing everyone does.

A Powerful Tool and The Perfect Desk Toy

Perfectly palm sized and a joy to fiddle with. With a super satisfying mechanism you can play with all day long, a perfectly balanced body for flicky-spinny action, and enough tactile feedback to subdue an anxious goat. Pocket Grip is perfectly at home right in your hands.

Back To The Future Part V, The World's First Miniature Double Ended Grip

"Too good to be true!" I hear you say, "someone must have thought of this before..." you shout, and you would be right! Invented back in 1913 the Triplet Grip has been around a while.

Originally invented by Mr Anderson (maybe Neo’s long lost family tree?), this original was first filed for patent in 1912 then sold until at least 1915 by distributors Stanley Tools who are still around today! We found this little creation by chance at a flea market and instantly fell in love with it.

Modern MetMo Magic

The original isn't particularly useful as it has a tendency to extrude nuts away from what it's holding as they don’t clamp parallel. Maybe that's why the original didn't last long, so we fixed it with some MetMo magic! We also sized it down from that original patent to make it more pocket friendly and loaded it up with features for the modern day.

Do It Once, Do It Well

Every part is machined from premium metals then hand finished to a brilliant shine. Pocket Grip is designed to last a lifetime, and is backed by the MetMo 200 year guarantee. "Do it once and do it well" was the mindset of toolmakers from hundreds of years ago and we have embodied that same mindset with Pocket Grip, intending for it to be passed down to future generations of young tinkerers, apprentices, and budding engineers.

A Third Hand That Clamps and Holds

With a specially designed jaw that's not only perfect at chompin' bolts, but also the perfect shape to clamp on standard miniature platforms from Bats and Rats (20mm) all the way up to Dragons and Krakens (100mm) letting you prod, poke, paint, and glue at every possible angle.

The Tiny Toolmaker's Clamp

Ever had parts so awkward to hold you end up building hundreds of custom jigs just to work on them... no? Just me? In any case, now you can avoid my daily struggles and hold all your awkward bits in your Pocket Grip, securely mounted in your work vice (or MetMo Fractal Vice), giving you plenty of room to work on them.

Adaptive Jaws

The star of the show. These guys stay parallel up to 20mm, so can clamp on to everything from chunky M12 bolts and stubborn 3/4" hose connectors, all the way down to delicate-work holding jobs like gluing Spitfire wings or holding down the Sanguinor whilst you attach their glorious winged codpiece.

Speed Fastening

Set the size once then use the adaptive jaw to your advantage to hook around and tighten any fastener. Perfect for awkwardly placed nuts.

A specially designed thread lets you bring down the grip onto what you are working on and fast! So if you're tightening a nut or getting a jammed bolt out you can just focus on the job and then marvel at how cool it was afterwards.

Clamping Pliers

Clamping pliers let you grip, pry and leaver those more difficult nuts nails and non standard things that just don’t want to be undone or have been damaged by lesser tools! Get a firm grip with its screw drive then let Pocket Grip do the rest of the work for when there's no right tool for the job.

Hex Drive Zone

We've designed in a sneaky hex drive into the centre of Pocket Grip to clamp down hard on a hex bit. Giving you a T-Drive style bit driver with a good amount of leverage, so you can undo a stubborn screw or jammed hex bit that needs that extra bit of power.

In Line

If a T-Drive won't cut it in a tight space or you need some extra length to see what you're doing, then go In-Line with the adaptive jaws.

An EDC Locking Grip, That Crushes 5 Tools Into One

  • Parallel Clamp Wrench
  • Pliers
  • Hex Driver
  • Clamp
  • Tap
  • Snips

Give Your Pocket A Mechanical Advantage

Small, sneaky, and tough as a Xenomorph. Pocket Grip fits easily into any fabric based orifice and is ready to burst out and attack at a moments notice.

Grab Those Nuts!

The fast action mechanism lets you quickly lock on to any object, but the real party trick is that Pocket Grip can clamp and hold some serious weight with only a few turns of the adjuster. This means Pocket Grip will stay put, whatever you're working on.

Fast to Adjust. Easy to Clamp. Grip What You Want.

Adaptive jaws give you the freedom to wrap around and clamp all kinds of funky objects, giving you freedom to work on life's more tricky situations.

Fully Serviceable With Removable Jaws

Nervous in the service? No need to be with the MetMo Pocket Grip! Strip it down, dismantle, repair, and rebuild. Everything we make, we make to be serviced. So you can keep Pocket Grip in your service for as long as you need it.

Let’s face it we've all been there, you've just used your tool to do something it wasn’t meant for and now you've damaged the jaws and rendered the tool not quite as useful as it once was… I know, we've all been there. Instead of making it your second tool we have re-designed Pocket Grip so you can remove the jaws, so if they get mangled in a fight with Karkinos, you can easily swap them out for a shiny new set.

Looks Sharp, Bites Sharper-er

This would look at home on the combat belt of a storm trooper manning a star destroyer. We've made it to fit in your pocket, but you'll want to have this on your desk or workstation at all times to capture the imaginations of those wondering by.

Ass of a Ducati With the Face of an Alligator

With design inspiration pulled from the world of motorsport and a very healthy dose of MetMo utility sprinkled on top, we've crafted a tool that's built to be noticed. With every angle machined with purpose and every curve chosen to fit perfectly in the palm of your hand.

Also... What's more terrifying than a 200mph alligator!?

Thin Profile

This slim guy lets you get into tricky spaces, but still gives you a good amount of gripping power.

CNC Machined

The machinists out there will appreciate just how intricate this design is to machine, and when you throw materials like Titanium into the mix you need to form averyspecial bond with your CNC mill to even think about attempting a job like this.

Our tools are machined from solid billets of metal and each surface is machined, chamfered, and finished to high precision, so each part can have fine details and a level of perfection not seen in regular tools, delivering high end engineering directly to your hands, for maximum satisfaction.

Corrosion Proof Options

Cut from the best stainless steel and titanium, Pocket Grip stands a cut above the rest, resisting corrosion and standing up to a lifetime of punishment.

Down and Knurly

A knurled adjuster lets you finely adjust the amount of pressure you're putting on something, so if you need a gentle nip or the life crushing force of Darth Vader, the power is at your fingertips.

A Vice-Like Grip

Pocket Grip has the best kind of advantage: mechanical advantage! Using the specially designed lead screw, Pocket Grip is able to apply and hold up to 21kg of force simply by turning the thumb screw. More than enough to get a solid grip on a bolt or clamp together what you're working on.

No More Nails

We've recreated the death like grip of the alligator's face with heavy duty teeth on the pilers, designed to bite into what you need and not let go. Expect what you grip to come out of it worse off, but if you have a rusted bolt that is at the end of it’s life this is what you need to get it shifted.

Plus, not everyone can claim to wield an alligators face, but now you can!

Stainless Steel Hardened Points

All of the connection surfaces on all of the Pocket Grips are fitted out with stainless steel hard points. These are the parts of the tool that will be under the most pressure, from doing up nuts to pulling out that last annoying nail. These areas are designed to be harder than what you use them on, so they'll last a lifetime and not let you down when you need it most!

Built to Last 200 Years

A 200 Year Guarantee? Yep, we design with that as our goal. If it can’t outlive us, we aren't interested. We use the Victorian ethos of building to last, so we don’t use plastic or substandard metals or parts that are designed to break. We don’t cover interdimensional warfare, but if the tool ever lets you down we will replace it for you. That’s our take on sustainability; make something that never needs to be thrown away. We aren't about using it and losing it.

Perfectly Balanced

Designed to have the prefect centre of gravity, so this hand-held double ended clamping machine sits perfectly in your hand. If you're tightening a nut or releasing that seized cap head screw, YOU are in control!

The Perfect Shape

Hundreds of hours of designing, redesigning, and working towards greatness have given us the perfect form. A comfortable shape to use and get your hand around for prying, clamping, or driving and feel great doing all of them.

Or use it to pop open a cold one with ease. This is what it's all about.

Tappin' and Rappin', This One IS for Squares

A late addition to the game, we've added in even more functionality in the form of a V groove perfect for holding and adapting to square drive tools like taps and drill bits. This baby handles 3-6mm (0.125-0.25") square drives. All. Day. Long.

Left Or Right Handed

Pocket grip is designed for all human hands; left, right... up, down, L1 + R1? Flip twist and manoeuvre to get into what you're working on, Pocket Grip will function the same, so no one is left out, apart from those pesky Xenomorphs. But they aren't ambidextrous.

Dual Wield

Get a grip in each hand! When you need to grab from both sides, or you're just feeling like showing off your metal, use two Pocket Grip to tighten, grab, or anything else your heart desires! Not limited to one plane, you can flip this little tool around any which way to grab on to anything.

Material Options

Do you choose the path of the toolmaker, opting for jaw options and customisation with the lightweight Aluminium, solid Stainless Steel, or get the best of both with Titanium Pocket Grip? Or do you forge forward and embrace the heavy metal life with Stainless Steel Snip Grip and gain the ability to chomp your foes with a precision blade? (Disclaimer! Only chomps foes up to 6mm in diameter).

Titanium

Looking for the power of stainless steel but want the lightweight nature of aluminium? Enter Titanium. We're using the same metal used to build jet engine turbine blades that are made to deal with the toughest conditions... it also happens to make a kick ass Pocket Grip.

This guy has removable jaws for easy servicing and customisation.

Brass Bearings

The design hinges on an integral brass bearing, designed for a silky-smooth motion that will keep on performing for generations to come and be a joy to use. This keeps everything rigid and parallel while you're working, so whatever you're working on you can rest assured the pliers won’t split on you when you need them most.

Hardened Steel Jaws

Say hello to your new best friend: 17-4 PH 45HRC. The ultimate balance of epic yield and compressive strength with a VERY healthy dose of toughness - that's what they say about me! This particular grade of stainless steel also has a very high plastic deformation resistance, which in simple terms means the teeth will bounce back and retain their edge far longer than any standard stainless steel.

For our fellow material nerds, here are the 17-4 PH 45HRC (H900) stats that really matter, this guy just doesn't yield:

  • Hardness Rockwell C - 45
  • Tensile Strength Ultimate - 1448 MPa
  • Tensile Strength Yield- 1379 MPa

Small But Mighty

The Pocket Power House! Using the almighty power of the TR6 lead screw combined with a good ol' fashioned lever, we're able to generate some serious clamping force perfect for holding down your steel cubes whilst you show your dominance with a pillar drill.

Testing, Testing, 1, 2

Getting to grips with the testing of the Pocket Grip! We aren't new to testing and pushing a design to its limits, and this design was no different.

We overcame various challenges with trying to fit so much function into a small pocket size, keeping it lightweight but still delivering the reliable power of a serious tool. So we used a combination of simulation and good old fashioned test rigs!

We always like to do real-world, hands on testing and comparison, so pitting Pocket Grip against a spanner was a no brainer. The spanner topped out at a few Nm more than Pocket Grip, but that's with two hands a whole lotta leaning. With Pocket Grip we could have gone harder, but we wanted to demonstrate a comfortable load with one hand as a realistic demonstration.

We also tested to full destruction through a torsion test. This one required some additional leverage as there is no way we could get enough power behind the Pocket Grip without causing some serious hand damage!

Here we are testing the clamping force with a specially designed rig we built to measure total grip force, as well as the stability of the hold over longer periods of time.

After testing a few options we designed in a super robust TR6x2 drive thread for clamping and holding to get the best clamping action in a small space.

Crocodilian Strength

In simulated environments we had the advantage that we could subject each individual part to extreme stress situations, like here where we were testing the upper jaw and body to see what they could withstand.

We put them under 4kN of force to only show a deflection of 1mm. This was pretty good considering this would be well above any expected use! It also gives our alligator some lovely scales and chompy teeth. This would be the real-world equivalent of hanging 400kg on the end of the Pocket Grip; that's the same as a small piano! Handy to know if you ever needed to jack up a Yamaha…

So, What's the Deal, Why Doesn't Everyone Make Stuff Like This?

Here at MetMo we aren't your usual 'buy it cheap, sell it high' kind of company. We think 'what would make this truly great?' then uncompromisingly work towards that goal. This pursuit means we take a totally different route to make products.

"But what does that mean?" I hear you ask! Well that means that we machine every part on state of the art CNC machines, normally used for slow precision engineering not designed for mass manufacture, and it means that we use the best materials and surface finishes we can find and not the cheapest and fastest to make. This all costs more to do, but gives you a great end product (if we do say so ourselves!).

With Pocket Grip we also spent a lot longer than usual making sure the design was actually machinable. As it's not a cast component like the original, but still retains its 'who needs a datum anyway' attitude, we had to get pretty creative with machine set up and jigs to actually prove we could make Pocket Grip! And as you can probably guess this adds a fair amount of work (and cost) to the end product... but it's totally worth it.
