We've been playing around with the concept of making a Fractal Vise for a long time, but the immense amount of machining made the cost im-fracitcal to make and sell (bah-dum tsh). Sure, there are really big versions of this around, but what about the desktop makers? That’s where we started; a classic design miniaturised for all of us working on things that little bit smaller.

Back to the Future Part IV, the World's First Miniature Fractal Vice
"Someone must have thought of this before..." you say? You're right! The fractal vice concept dates back to 1913, but it was originally designed for massive, expensive machinery. We've taken that precision and miniaturised it into a handy desktop size – the versatile 'third hand' you need for everything from models and 3D prints to watches, jewellery, tools, and more.
Clamp Any Shape
The fractal jaws will clamp any difficult shape, like round tubes, irregular mouldings, or miniature bananas! It gives you a secure way to hold your commonly unclamp-able parts, so you can work on your projects in totally new ways or just save your hands from cramp!

Rock Solid
Every component is machined from solid metal and held together with high tensile cap head bolts, all moving on precision ground rails making this compact vise extremely dense. We've not removed any metal for weight or cost saving, so this makes for one very rigid piece of kit. Even though its size is small you can use it like a serious tool while cutting and hammering, so it won’t slow you down while you work.

A Fine Drive
A precision fine screw drive gives superior clamping power and also very fine adjustment, all whilst reducing backlash and movement that is experienced with most vises. When clamping you're in full control, applying just the right amount of pressure without damaging what you're working on.
No More Floppy Vises
Fed up with floppy vises? We were too! Most vises you can buy are made cheap, unless you're buying gear for heavy duty machines, resulting in things just clanking about until they're done up. With Fractal Vise we've used precision ground slide rails to re-create a linear slide from machine tools, so the winding in and out of the jaws is a perfectly satisfying motion.
Turbo Drive
Really need to crush the life out of something and don’t quite have the forearm? Then you can use the hex drive in the end of the adjuster to attach a hex key (or a MetMo Pocket Driver) to get some real torque into it!
Getting Down and Knurly
Use the tie bar, or the knurled adjuster for extra grip, to give you direct feedback on what you're clamping so as not to over tighten and damage what you're working on. Designed to be comfortable when applying pressure.
A Fractal That Sticks Around
Get a grip with a silicone rubber foot! You won’t scratch the surface you put the vise on and it'll keep it from sliding around on a smooth worktop while you're using it in free standing mode, giving you a stable clamping platform you can work from.
Deep Jaws
Designed with a jaw depth of 20mm to give the vise a gripping height double that of standard desktop vises.

Agile Rogue or Sturdy Blacksmith
The Black Fractal Vise is machined mainly from anodised aluminium with hardened steel jaws, and is perfect for lightweight tasks like model painting and fine detail work like watch repairs. The extra maneuverability allows you to quickly move the Vise to the perfect location.
The Stainless Steel Fractal Vise is made entirely of heavy duty steel and is built like an absolute tank to survive anything you can throw at it. They'll be digging these things up in a few hundred years, marvelling at the still functioning fractals as they clamp their bionic future fingers. Choose this option if extra stability is what you value, as it's perfect for tasks like metal work or light machining.
Small But Mighty
Designed with a high clamping force in mind, the thread is specifically designed to get as much torque as possible into the clamping faces, driving over 3000Nm of torque at maximum (around 300kg).
That’s the same as a one year old baby elephant standing on it, so you can grip what you're working on with confidence, or crush something like Vader. Just remember - the tighter your grip the more star systems will slip through your fingers.
Testing
With great power comes great responsibility. With some background in testing things to destruction, we set to work to figure out the weak points of the Fractal Vise.
There is more to vise design than just pure power, so we took that into account whilst still wanting to test things to the limit. We used a combination of simulation and good old fashioned test rigs.
On this rig we tested the vise to have a maximum clamping force of 300kg (the equivalent to a jaguars bite!), and everything was still fully operational afterwards.
What's the Deal, Why This Price?
Here at MetMo we aren't your usual 'buy it cheap, sell it high' kind of company. We think 'what would make this truly great?' then uncompromisingly work towards that goal. This pursuit means we take a totally different route to make products.
"But what does that mean?" I hear you ask! Well that means that we machine every part on state of the art CNC machines, normally used for slow precision engineering not designed for mass manufacture, and it means that we use the best materials and surface finishes we can find and not the cheapest and fastest to make. This all costs more to do, but gives you a great end product.
We do all this to make sure we are making products the way our forefathers used to, totally over engineered to last generations, because they wouldn't be happy with something that broke after a few years and neither are we!
Very well designed and built. All parts move smoothly and with ease. Extremely versatile. I use it for small models and electronic components. It can be a little fiddly to get an irregularly shaped part seated properly, but that is because the vise is so adaptable. Once seated it's secure. Completely satisfied.
I’ve only had my Black Fractal Vise 82 for a short while, but every time I use it, it is a true delight. Watching the jaws shift and conform to whatever I’ve put in there is extremely satisfying! I can attest to it holding delicate items securely without stressing them. I bought this primarily to use in scale modeling, but I am always looking for reasons to clamp something! (See my photo) I recently used it to paint tiny, 1” resin printed spaceships, and it held them gently & securely while I did the detailing. My painting can always use improvement, but I cannot find any issues with this vise!
My experience with this vise is great and I love this tool. As with all Metmo products, the fit and finish is exceptional. I was uncertain upon purchase if this would meet my needs. I’m working with some pretty tiny things. I can clamp my motor mounts with enough force for me to wind without my stator moving. This is pretty exceptional as the motor mounts are not square and have only a 1.25 mm thick surface to clamp on. I can pinch the stator and lift the vice… while it’s clamped to a 1.25mm thick item… honestly impressive.This vice met and exceeded my expectations. Very pleased, would recommend in 76 milliseconds.
Quality is outstanding, and the holding ability on just about any object is superb.
A solid, well machined third hand. I picked it up a kickstarter backer and have used it for numerous small tasks. It needed a little lubrication on the screw as adjusting the vise was very difficult. I appreciate the additional accessories, ruler, and parts tray in the base
Incredible workmanship. Brilliant device. I bought this fractal vise because i have paralysis in my left hand side, and struggle to hold anything. But, i love making models. Id been wondering how to carefully hold intricate pieces whilst still workinv on them. Thankfully, Metmo make this, and the board to sit it on, with an adjustable ball clamp to hold the vise onto it. The “board” is made of solid metal, and has a steel rule that pops striaght out to show mm, or inche, and it has a removavke cutting mat, displaying angles across a grid. It weighs enough that i can sit it on the arm of my chair and work away at my Gunpla, without struggling and typiclalg cutting myself when trying to nip parts out. The range of motion and diameter of grip on the vise means it even holds fairly massive items. Its just sheer brilliance!

This is a great finished product with excellent functionality; however, each accessory is very expensive and sold separately. For example, the base and the ball mount are sold separately, neither of which provides any functionality for the fractal vise on its own.
I use this everyday to hold small items it works fantastic
I've recently started model building and quickly became frustrated with it when I needed one hand to hold the model still, one to hold a nut and another to screw a screw in, pretty impossible at times and meant I was spending far longer than I should be doing this sort of thing. And coming out more stressed than I went into it, which was the opposite of what was intended!So the Metmo Fractal Vice came into my world and helps me in my 3rd hand needs! I've used it to hold models and on the odd occasion, hold nuts via a gripped pair of pliers and it's working great! Grips stuff well, plus I appreciate the grips in this device as the models are odd shapes, so wouldn't work well with just flat jaws you find in most vices. The models I'm making use quite soft metal too as you need to bend bits in places, so it's handy being able to control how tight to fasten something, combined with the jaws, means it's held still, but not squashing anything.Also, as I've come to expect from MetMo, it's very well built and feels nice - no rough or unfinished bits on it!
The build is incredible. I use it for small wooden objects that need to be secured without clamping marks. Mission successful with style.

Those vise is fantastic. Very well made, perfect finish, great operation. I use it for various small hobbies. I use it to hold dice I'm making, mini figures in painting, small wood projects, and various craft projects. It holds tight every time. I love this vise.
Best small vice there is on the market! It will grip literally anything tightly that can fit in its clamps. For any hobbyist painter this is a must have!
I love this thing. It's as well made as the driver is, and holds items perfectly. My daughter is always breaking her toys, and this vice with a small tube of gorilla glue is saving lots of tears. It's now a game we play to fix the toys together. I got the ball clamp too, well worth it for larger objects to hold at weird angles.
Just got my new fractal vise and it seems really good. Just like shown in all the pictures, its clean, well made, fits together perfectly and clamps a delicate 3D resin model part gently but firmly. Comes in a nice little box with all the screw drivers you might need. I'm a model maker and I expect to have this for the rest of my life and get a grip on just about any kind of complex shape I ever need. Very nice work, thanks!
