No, we aren't talking about collecting long, precipitated DNA fibres. We are of course talking about the unique motion that combines spinning and rolling, powered by its own weight, even giving you a distinctive ring at the end of the spol entirely unique to this design!

Spol On Any Surface

Don’t be restricted to just running on the Newtonian mirror (even if it does make you feel like a smooth criminal). Singularity discs will run on any surface, though they won’t keep going as long. Why don’t you try out your marble worktop, glass desk, or laminate tabletop for different sounds across different surfaces? Maybe you can take with you next time you're at the pub to show off this pocket wonder on a bar counter! I'm sure the staff won't mind...

Rigid Body Dynamics

Hang on a minute, what’s all this spolling about? It sounds made up! I hear you, and you aren’t technically wrong. Spolling is a term that’s been designated to this unique motion to encompass all of its movements. In reality, it’s a rigid body undergoing rolling contact with precession under gravity. That’s not quite as snappy though, so we’ll stick with the spol.

What if you took all of the above, and then made it in tungsten? We simply had to know! The result? One damn heavy spolling coin that runs like a charm. Surprise the unaware with this weighty tungsten disc - it’s small, but boy is it mighty. 

We’ve made the Norse men proud by fashioning these heavy lumps into something useful, giving them a geometric upgrade. Enjoy this weighty scale model, akin to the original with a tungsten upgrade.

We wanted to capture the magic of spolling, but also wanted something a little more pocket sized - so that’s what we did! Now you can enjoy the same motion from this coin sized collection. Fiddle with them on your desk or take them out for a walk, they’re portable and pocket friendly! 

These smaller discs are engineered to run for a longer time, so even though they’re smaller in size they still deliver a mighty long spolling. Shrimpy satisfaction.

Rolling Out in Small Batches

Each disc is lovingly machined by a robot, giving each one the perfect accuracy only achievable on a precision machining centre. We machine the discs in small batches so that we can check each one as it’s made, ensuring each metal wedge is perfectly finished.

Not that we don’t trust the machines!

Turning Heads with Groovy Grooves

Each disc is precision turned to 0.2-0.4ra. We’re talking about the arithmetic average of the absolute surface height deviation here, so there’s no messing about. In practice, this translates to a real smooth finish. It’s been said that not all surfaces are machined equally(someone said that, right?), so for our discs it’s important that they’re not just smooth, but also consistent in a radial pattern so the disc can roll and spol along these microscopic grooves. 

Bet you never knew so much could be going on at the surface of this unassuming disc!
