Occasionally a MetMo arrives at the inspection bench with a scratch, a blemish, or a mechanism that doesn’t feel quite as satisfying as it should.
They’re still useful. They’re still packed with great engineering. They’re just not Grade A.
Instead of turning perfectly serviceable products into expensive scrap, we grade them, describe their quirks honestly, and offer them to people who don’t mind a mark or who actively enjoy a mechanical project.

B Grade products work exactly as intended, they’ve just picked up a cosmetic imperfection somewhere along the way.
C Grade products work too, but the mechanism doesn’t feel quite as good as it should. They might be a little stiff or have a little more play than usual. For most people, that’s a flaw. For the sort of person who takes things apart just to see how they work, it’s a project.
We can’t predict what’ll get bounced from inspection, so Workshop Seconds appear in small, slightly imperfect batches. If something catches your eye, don’t hang about. Once it’s gone, we can’t promise another will fail quite so conveniently!

FAQs
Are Workshop Seconds broken?
B Grade products are not broken. They are fully functional products with cosmetic imperfections.
C Grade products work, but have a known mechanical imperfection that affects their action, feel or satisfaction. The individual listing will explain possible issues, and it's more likely to be a project that needs work.
Are they safe to use?
We will not sell anything we consider unsafe or structurally compromised. C Grade refers to mechanical feel or performance that falls below our normal standard, not a product that has failed a basic safety check.
Will I see the exact imperfection?
Because products can fail inspection on a few different checks, we can't list the exact issues wrong with each individual item. We will provide a list of potential issues, and you can decide whether it's worth it for you!
Can I repair or modify a C Grade product?
That’s largely who they’re for! Only undertake work you are competent and properly equipped to perform. Inspect and test the product before dismantling it as we can't replace C grade products!
Are Workshop Seconds guaranteed?
Workshop seconds, be the B Grade or C Grade, are not covered under our standard 200 year guarantee for core products.
Can I return a Workshop Second?
We do our absolute best to spot everything, but we’re only human. If your item arrives with an unlisted mechanical fault we somehow missed, don't worry, you’ve got 30 days to return it to us. Cosmetic damage isn’t covered here!
Please note that because these items are highly unique and stock is incredibly limited, we cannot offer product exchanges. Once a MetMo is gone, it's gone!
