A Slice of History

Invented in 1870, perfected in 2025.

Inspired by the Japanese chisels (Oiire Nomi) with mentori profiles which were created by sword makers following the demise of the samurai order, and were given very unique cutting profiles so that carpenters and joiners could create intricate joints.

We have taken the iconic shape of this well sculpted tool, miniaturised it, and turned it into a powerfully robust multi-purpose box cutting warrior.

Parfait

A nice tool that is perfect for keyrings which is supplied , very small which is perfect much better than the £20 lock knife i used to keep handy for opening packages etc ,etc1 small but too me important point is the cutting tool could be sent to customers a lot sharper than the one i recieved, I was always taught from woodwork classes at school to those early days of carpentry apprenticeship that a blunt tool was more dangerous than a sharp tool which ive found out on several occasions over the past 50 years. Not a great problem in the grand scheme of things but when your paying nearly £80 i think you should be given the choice of sharp or standard cutting edge, item was presented in a very nice box with foam insert and booklet on how to look after your tool , exploded view of tool and how to take apart for sharpening etc ,im very happy with product.

Useful, but scratches horribly

Awesome little tool to open packages, food bags, cut tape, etc. The device already looks horribly old and scratched up. The glossy finish is probably a bad design.

Marketing hype not worth the money.

I kept getting served ads for the Metmo Edge Titanium and gave in to the marketing hype. Being realistic, it’s a tiny bit of metal with and half sharp edge. You can buy something similar on Temu for less than £5. I was thinking it was going to feel more special and premium than it does. The packaging was just a plain both with logo on. Popped the item on my keyring and it was scratched within the first day of having it.Absolutely not worth £80 of my hard earned money. Please don’t waste your money like I did. Don’t give in to the intense marketing. It is NOT worth it.

Thank you for your feedback! We always use the best materials for the job, and the Edge is made from Grade 5 titanium, which isn't cheap! Aluminium and stainless steel are also available, both offering a lower-cost option. Whilst titanium is strong it isn't scratch proof. If minor marks do appear, we recommend using a polishing cloth to help reduce or remove them.Cheers, Team MetMo

Three and a Half Stars

Very nicely made, but I was hoping for a sharper blade. Despite all the warnings about keeping it from children, the blade is really no sharper than a screwdriver. I bought this to use in part as a box cutter, but it is only sharp enough to slit the tape; it gets bogged down trying to cut through cardboard. Other than that, I think it is a fantastic EDC and like it.Best wishes

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback! The Edge is designed as an ideal box cutter and will easily cut through tape and general cardboard packaging. It won’t feel as sharp as a knife blade, but keeps it safe and within guidelines for a non-locking blade. We’re glad to hear you like the design but if you’re not completely satisfied, please send a video over to our customer service and they can take a look! Cheers Team MetMo

Metro Edge - reminds me of tools built by craft tool makers of an earlier century

This is a modern precision tool reminiscent of a classic tool fabricated in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s. Fit and finish is superb and tool functions like a charm. I have two small folding rules that exhibit ths same focus on quality and accuracy. Other than modern materials and fabrication methods this tool could be an example of a tool produced by a “name” toolmaker of an earlier day. Well done Metmo!!

Metmo cutter

Does the job. Although I op-ed for the titanium. It is overpriced for what it is. Paying for the name

Thanks for the feedback Donald! We do use aerospace grade 5 titanium for the body along with hardened stainless steel for the blade - we use the best materials for the job! We do also have the stainless steel and anodised aluminium at lower price points.Cheers,Peg

Great product, with one suggestion

Very impressed with the quality, and design. Size allows for easy carry, and use. However, I honestly wish this Edge had an option to lock it in the openposition. Currently, it is required that you hold pressure on the slide button at all times during use, which I found limits my effectiveness in openly larger boxes, especially those with thicker sealing tape, and in different positions. It also limits holding positions, to accommodate some uses. However, definitely a quality item. Thank you.

Love it

Works perfectly, Good size, magnet ensures return of cutting edge. Very well made.

Use it to appreciate

First look may sound strange. Then use it (to cut tape on a boxe, to open a metal box, like a mini prybar, etc.). Everyday, a new use. Multiplicity under simplicity. And a fidget when not used !

Pretty useful tool

I was impressed that due to its size the Edge becomes so available for opening packages.I was surprised it wasn’t sharper than it is, but you can always pass it over a seam another time if it doesn’t cut.

High quality, with some design flaws

Like all Metmo gear, the materials and build are top-notch. I always appreciate their detailed craftsmanship and dedication to quality. However, I have a few issues with the design itself: First, I feel like the blade should be lockable in the open position. I understand the intended operation is to keep your thumb on the opener, and this acts as the “lock” keeping the blade open, but this grip simply isn’t always practical. Sometimes you need to adjust your grip while cutting, and it’s not always with your thumb on the opener.Second, the blade should probably be rotated 90deg counter-clockwise (to the left when viewed from the top), or perhaps have the option to do so. It just feels like this orientation would be more ergonomic in most situations.Third, the entire magnetic retention system, while easy to use, isn’t exactly the most practical or safe. If keeping this tool on your keychain, having a strong magnet exposed seems to always cling to things in annoying & unwanted ways - potentially even deploying the blade. While it’s a decently strong magnet, it’s just too susceptible to unintended opening. It’d be great to have a secondary mechanism that’s required to deploy the blade PLUS an optional lock in the open position. Ideally, we’d have these in a non-magnetic system.I’d certainly be interested in an Edge V2 with the above refinements!

Hey,Thanks for the feedback! The blade doesn't lock in place because this would make it an illegal carry in some places, and we don't want anyone getting in trouble with their MetMo! We appreciate the notes on the grip and blade orientation, and thanks for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. Thanks,Team MetMo

Great Little Cutting Device

The only qualm I have about the design is why MetMo did not use some sort of push-down locking button or bolt-action slide channel in order to keep the blade locked in the down position. Holding the button down constantly with your thumb while the tool is in use is your only option. (If there was a button lock position you would be able to change your grip and use both thumb and index finger on the narrow sides to comfortably hold and use the tool.) Otherwise, the general design and finish are absolutely cool and I'm glad I purchased this!

So smart, so useful

Just got this today, and a huge hit right away. Having a little pocket knife on a keychain is not unusual. But this one is, and in a way that makes it much more functional, at least for me. It can be opened and used one-handed ! In fact the internal magnet not only holds the business end in its metal sheath; it draws the cutting end back into the sheath as soon as you let go of it. As your write-up suggests, it is like having an additional finger with its own cutting capability, more specifically a utility extension to your thumb. Awesome !!Yes, you guys are the Aces of “Metal in Motion.” Creativity is your mode. And “Engineering Joy” is passed to your customers !!And a footnote: the detailed pictures and description of the making of the Edge are a real plus. Not so much in giving confidence in its design, manufacture, function and utility. As a full spectrum customer of MetMo, I already knew all that. The bonus is in seeing the processing that led to this engineering achievement.
