MetMo Black Pocket Driver
MetMo Black Pocket Driver
Invented in 1871 and Miniaturised in 2023
A classic icon of engineering history, miniaturised for the first time to create a tool unlike anything else. Bringing back a tool from the past to fix problems of today, they truly don't make them like this anymore.
MetMo Pocket Driver is both a fidget toy and tool, keeping you satisfied for hours on end either fiddling with it or building your next project.
A Powerful Tool and the Perfect Desk Toy
Like a Swiss watch, each component interlocks perfectly so you can enjoy the endless motion of Pocket Driver's moving parts.
Pocket Driver is a tool you won't want to hide away in your tool box! Designed to be fiddled with, each rotation and click has been meticulously crafted to give you maximum satisfaction, even just sat at your desk.
A Satisfying Drive
Simply rotating the chuck is huuuuuuugely satisfying. The weight feels reassuring in your hand and you know that if you do ever need to drive something in, Pocket Driver is there for the job.
Instead of hiding the fun stuff away we've left it exposed like the original, so you can see that satisfying motion. But wait, there's more! Every part is designed to click and move with ultimate satisfaction, more than just a tool, and you won’t want to put it down!
Assemble Anything, Anywhere, all at Once!
Pocket Driver is perfect for building anything! Designed for Allen/hex key bits as well as standard screw and micro screw bits, there really isn't anything it can't handle! From Ikea furniture to a motorcycle kickstand, all can be assembled with this small but mighty tool.
Why Have We Created MetMo Pocket Driver?
After the success of our Driver, inspired by Conrad Baumann's ratchet driver design from the 1950's, a lot of customers loved the design but wanted something smaller for every day carry. So we set to work incorporating everything everyone loved from the first tool, miniaturised it, and added in some extra magic too.
What Can It Do?
A compact multi-tool, designed to be the lightweight and portable.
Perfect for handling everything from computer builds to bicycle maintenance, and compact enough for your daily carry. Annoyingly small Allen keys will be a thing of the past!
Why Not a Modern Ratchet Screwdriver?
Modern tools are made to a price, and most use cheap plastics and components that are designed to break after so many uses. We wanted to make something with a full metal construction and bring engineering grade quality production into the world of tools. A driver that would stand the test of time, putting fun and precision back into the task at hand.
The original design was hugely satisfying to fiddle with and we wanted to recreate that feeling by combining it with something which looked amazing, so you can even enjoy it at your desk as an excellent piece of engineering (and show it off to your friends 😉).

A Pocket That Does It All
With more torque than it knows what to do with! Pocket Driver is designed to bridge the gap between hex/Allen keys, T-drivers and micro drivers, and of course, screwdrivers. What more could your pocket ask for?
Who's It For?
Made for designers, engineers, thinkers, and anyone who wants to just take a moment to focus, relieve stress or play around. MetMo Pocket Driver is both a powerful and versatile tool and amazingly fun to fiddle with! After all, why should tools be only used in the workshop?

Back to the Future Part II
Own a part of history with one of the early forms of the ratchet screwdriver, patented by Conrad Baumann under the brand name Baumann-Weltrecord, in the 1920's.
Baumann's vision lives once more, re-imagined using hardened materials and state of the art machining techniques, driving home the quality and reliability for which his original was known.

Driving Through the Years
With only a handful of originals left in the world and even fewer available for auction, we are keeping the story alive for future generations, building on what Baumann could have done if they had the engineering techniques of today.
With Pocket Driver we took everything Baumann pioneered, engineered out all the weak points, and made it as compact as physically possible. We then added in a bunch of new features, making it an extremely useful tool for the 21st century.
Get the Hell Out of Here Allen!
Lets face it, hex and Allen keys haven't changed much, and they're used for pretty much EVERYTHING! Cheap and cheerful, and they just work... most of the time.
Pocket Driver is a compact hybrid between a T-handle and ratchet driver, meaning you'll never have to experience a painstakingly slow and finger pinching IKEA build ever again!

Take it Easy on the Hands
Normally hex keys can be really uncomfortable to use; just think back to that undersized IKEA Allen key... Sure, there are sets with handles on them, but who carries those around with them? Pocket Driver gives you torque and comfort in the palm of your hand.

A Class of Its Own
Pocket Driver forges a new class of tool, pocket sized but packs a punch.
With its impressive torque, this tool serves as a versatile screwdriver, a compact T driver, and a substitute for Allen keys, while remaining agile enough to be used as a micro driver. Practical, and portable.
Quick Release Handle
Quick release, fold out handle harnessing the power of the pivot. The handle pops into place in seconds, giving you all the advantages of a bigger tool whilst taking up less space. It's like the Swiss army knife of screwdrivers… kind of.
A Whole New Way to Hold a Driver
The handle works with you depending on what space you're working in. Use in-line as a micro driver, off-line to get into a tight space but with some extra grip, use in T-mode to get some real power behind it, or use the pistol grip for a comfortable driving experience.
Easy Reacher
No screw is out of reach for our tool, as it effortlessly navigates tight and inconvenient spaces, delivering impressive performance. The timeless classic design, updated for modern use, makes your life easier by requiring less effort to drive screws that are difficult to reach with conventional ratchet screwdrivers. Pocket Driver ensures that even the most stubbornly buried screws won't escape its relentless power, allowing you to tackle any screw-driving task with ease!
MetMo Goes Micro
Built for micro bits, perfect for taking apart more fragile items like computers and lesser drivers, making this a versatile and handy tool.
Let's Torque About Your Bike
Don't get caught out on the road!
A small fold away design that packs a real punch! Pocket Driver is perfect for keeping your pride and joy in top condition, small enough to accompany you wherever you go.
Two in the Chamber
Need a bit? We've got you covered. Pocket Driver has inline storage for two emergency bits to get you out of a bind. Load up with your most commonly used bits to keep you driving all day long.
Grab Hold of Your Bits
Basic stuff, but weak magnets in drivers are a real pain point! A powerful neodymium magnetic bit holder grabs bits firmly, so you don't end up leaving them stuck in what you're working on… we've all been there!
Use With Any Drive Bit
While we are talking bits, unlike the original 1950's design, Pocket Driver is compatible with all standard removable Hex drive bits so you can use it with 1000’s of modern fixtures, including your favourite brands from all over the world.

I really thought I was going to get my new go-to driver. Unfortunately it is clunky and unwieldy. The hex bit set seems limited and they drag as I place the bits in and out of the driver. The leather pouch is really poor. It doesn’t contain the driver, magnetic bit holder or the bits well, they are a nightmare to get in and out, then it requires force to close. Once closed it is lumpy and bulges strains to pop open. The magnetic bit holder can only hold I think 6 bits and isn’t at all shaped to attached to the driver in a satisfying way, which seems an oversight. All this for just shy of *two hundred pounds*. I wouldn’t be so disappointed if it weren’t for a price-tag that screams excellence. I have other promo products that I love so maybe I had unfair expectations. Then again, I think I had high expectations because of the price.
Great addition to my EDC, very good quality. I like the action, the feel and the look of it. Much lighter than I was expecting, which is good as I already carry a multi tool. Just bought a bit kit to expand it's versatility. Look forward to testing it in the field.
The MetMo Pocket Driver significantly improves Konrad Baumann’s ingenious invention. It is a beautiful design and the engineering is beyond reproach. It is an enjoyable modern alternative to worry beads as well as an excellent tool for a wide variety of tasks.
I had the chance to use it now for several tasks. It's a great tool, especially when you need that extra bit of power. Also, when paired with a quality bit set it's my smallest toolbox. I'll carry it with me when there is a slight chance it could be used. And if not, it doesn't matter because it's so light and small. Also I like to keep it in my hands whenever appropriate. Clicking it open and close or rotating the driver just feels good. Highly recommended!
Received my pocket driver yesterday. At first, I was a bit surprised at how small it is, but that’s probably because I have my driver on my desk as a fidget tool. But now it all makes sense - solid, well machined and fits in your pocket - brilliant! I would say the only potential improvement is with the direction selector - the spring feels a bit underpowered, can get stuck, and the brass nobble would be much better if knurled. Very happy though - well done Metmo team!
What an absolutely fantastic tool! Holding and using it you can really feel the precision and care that went into designing and making it. This tool feels like it will definitely last a lifetime. The amount of torque you can get is incredible. I cracked a rusty 14mm nut off an old wheelbarrow no problem without the use of lubricants. Not only is this a great tool but it also makes an excellent fidget toy and easily fits in your pocket.
Received my Pocket Driver today and it's love at first sight. Feels great in the hand, looks lovely and the feel and sound of the ratchet is very satisfying. A perfect companion to my other EDCs...I've hardly even tried it out yet, but the very first thing I did was taking it apart. Not often it feels so natural to do so with a brand new purchase. It was also very easy to do and equally easy to assemble again. I don't foresee any issues in making sure this thing will last for decades.
I'd have never imagined one of my favorite objects to be a driver. As a designer myself, I believe great design elevates the experience, and they’ve achieved this by transforming a conventional tool into something exceptional. You can feel the quality when you hold it, and the genius when you use it. This is design at its finest—turning the chore of manual screwdriving into a pleasure. Plus its a gorgeous EDC!
I like the options the cheaper one is so light weight compared too the all stainless it depends what task I'll be doing that day as too which one I carry the all stainless feels like it will last two lifetimes great qaulity tool. I appreciate the thought that went into the bit carrier and pouch the only thing I bought that I have not used that much is extender but I do see how it could come in handy in certian situations just havent run into a screw that the pocket driver itself could not handle so haven't ever needed too put extention on yet but nice too know I have option if needed. The pocketdrivers fit nicely into pocket. I also own the bigger version it has come in handy quite a few times when my battery drill has run out of battery I've used it too drive a metal screw into frame of truck for some wireing I was doing something that would have been impossible too do with just a regular screwdriver. I give them all 5 stars ratings. Keep up good work
The shipping took longer than expected but the driver is better and lighter than I imagined. It is very convenient for EDC and I'm completely fan of the design (and I love how it switches between forward and reverse). It is very satisfying to use and will make you find opportunities to use it. It is the kind of tool you're proud to own. I find all Metmo projects interesting and will follow the next projects for sure!
I love my driver and pocket driver. I work in the solar business and i always have 2 things in my pocket. Pocket driver and a multitool. For the heavy duty jobs i carry my regular driver. Both 10 out of 10.
I’ve already mentioned this on their YouTube video, but I’ll say it here too. As a designer, I would never imagined one of my favorite to be a screwdriver. Truly great design elevates the user experience, and they’ve achieved this by transforming a conventional tool into something exceptional. You can feel the quality when you hold it, and the genius when you use it. This is design at its finest—turning the chore of manual screwdriving into a pleasure. My new favorite EDC!
This driver is best thing since sliced bread. Nothing else to say besides the fact that its absolute perfection objectively speaking. Name a better driver, I'll wait. Love the size and feel of this little fella. The only wish I have would be for a full blacked out version (delete the stainless steel and replace with blacked out powder coating) but I'll just be as happy at my chances of winning the full gold edition. Metmo - please keep innovating new products, you will have my endless support in the Kickstarter campaigns even if I am broke at times. This company knows style and aesthetic and how to intertwine that with form and function. Stop thinking and get yourself this driver -- you will thank your future self. - Hassan
Very happy with the full SS version. And I offered AL version for each of my two sons. Great quality, useful every day, handy and built to last (almost) forever 😉. Good job Metmo !
I'm very happy with my MetMo Pocket Driver. It's extremely versatile and easy to use. I would definitely recommend it. A high quality product.
I meant to buy the OG Driver for a specific problem that I have, which requires an insane amount of torque and focused weight centered in a T10 bolt’s fragile (remains of a) head to prevent any further damage. I got the Pocket Driver, by mistake, during the fast paced selling out deals on Black Friday weekend. It was a mixup, on my part, and when I received the Pocket Driver and opened the box, I initially felt really disappointed. I now feel bad, because I reached out to tell the Metmo team that I was disappointed in their marketing. It wasn’t their mistake. It was mine. I’m a jerk for that. Sorry, again, Metmo team! While I was waiting for their reply, I had some time to examine the Pocket Driver through the eyes of other reviewers, and read the comparisons offered by Metmo - OG vs. Pocket, and I realized that I was letting my disappointment in my situation get in the way of appreciating a really marvelous precision tool. This thing is really something incredible, and while I had originally intended to seek a refund or exchange, you couldn’t possibly convince me to send it back or sell it. It is SO useful for the small mechanical things, and it perfectly fills the void where I have previously had lesser bit drivers that always break or seize up!In addition, the Pocket Driver is also a perfect toy for times on the phone/remote screen sharing sessions with customers, and having to repeat server rescue commands to the user. The “click-click-click” of the chuck rotating in my fingers is distracting/soothing, and helps calm my nerves, when I feel anxious. Finally, it might seem expensive, but that’s just because this is not some cheap piece of unidentified scrap metal that’s made to varying/unknown tolerances, in a third world nation. The Pocket Driver is SOLID, QUALITY tooling that you will not likely regret buying. Overall, for me, this thing is 10/10 stars. Without question. No other tool I have ever owned is at this level of precision and quality. I am buying the OG Driver now, and will definitely any buy other tools that they make in the future. I hope this review helps you make a decision, if you are on the fence!
Beatiful piece of thoughtful design and precision engineering.
As both a designer and a tinkerer who has been trying to find the right combination of useful tools to EDC, and as someone who can focus better when I have something to fidget with, this scratches a lot of itches.
In particular, the combination of functions (inline + right angle driver plus ratchet) is tricky to find without carrying a much larger tool or a frankenstein of different edc tools.
My favourite thing, however, is how easy it is to change the ratchet mode. Rather than requiring two hands to hold the driver and twist a ring, or a turn a tiny lever, I can switch modes with my thumb without looking at the driver, using a second hand or changing my hand position. Super elegant.
It's not perfect, however, and there are 2 areas where the design seems to unecessarily add friction, but that could easily be solved with optional accessories or part replacements since it's easy to disassemble. I get the sense that this sort of thing matters to the designers and engineers at metmo, so I'll give my thoughts:
1. As a pocket driver, an expected use case will be EDC or perhaps inclusion in a mini toolkit. This would usually come with limitations for space and weight, which the tool itself balances well. However, in this situation double ended bits (sometimes even leatherman style 'flat' bits), are generally more efficient to carry than standard ones, and are usually a worthwhile compromise since heavy duty tasks are likely to have people reaching for their full toolkit rather than what's in their pocket. Sadly, this requires an additional bit holder which are typically fairly long so increase the footprint of the tool if kept in (unless you saw it down to size). This is also made more awkward by issue 2.
2. Being a multi purpose tool with different modes of use, it'd be common to use inline for one screw, use the arm for extra torgue for another and so on. Similarly, an expected behaviour for carrying a tool like this would be to have a bit loaded at all times. These are both possible, but this adds a layer of friction because the bit goes through the hole in the handle, and needs to be removed and put back in order to move the handle. This adds an unecessary step, and an avoidable risk of dropping the bit.
These are not deal breakders by any means, but I would suggest that they do cause friction and I think they would be relatively easy to solve.
For issue 2, I'd suggest that first, the hole in the handle is opened up, perhaps maintaining the single piece form by opening up on one side with a U shape, allowing the handle to be opened and closed while a bit or extender is engaged. This could easily be sold as an optional accessory for those that want it.
For issue 1, the options are probably wider, but the easiest to my mind would couple with a solution for issue 2. If an optional handle accessory is available, making it longer would allow for either an extension or replacement for the part that holds the bit, without preventing closure. Alternatively, if the handle only allows opening without removing the bit or extender, then a double ended bit compatable bit extender would be an easier solution provided that is is relatively short and designed around the handle.
