Ground breaking miniaturisation, without the shrink ray! 

We wanted to capture the magic of spolling, but also wanted something a little more pocket sized - so that’s what we did! Now you can enjoy the same motion from this coin sized collection. Fiddle with them on your desk or take them out for a walk, they’re portable and pocket friendly! 

These smaller discs are engineered to run for a longer time, so even though they’re smaller in size they still deliver a mighty long spolling. Shrimpy satisfaction. 

Each disc is lovingly machined by a robot, giving each one the perfect accuracy only achievable on a precision machining centre. We machine the discs in small batches so that we can check each one as it’s made, ensuring each metal wedge is perfectly finished.

Not that we don’t trust the machines!

Each disc is precision turned to 0.2-0.4ra. We’re talking about the arithmetic average of the absolute surface height deviation here, so there’s no messing about. In practice, this translates to a real smooth finish. It’s been said that not all surfaces are machined equally(someone said that, right?), so for our discs it’s important that they’re not just smooth, but also consistent in a radial pattern so the disc can roll and spol along these microscopic grooves.

At MetMo we only use the best materials for the job, which is why we’ve chosen 316 stainless steel for our primary disc. Favoured in medical instruments, this is reliable, durable, and comes with a reassuring weight to match its quality. Rust is bad (who knew?). It’s real bad on something that needs to be oh-so-smooth, which is why we’ve cracked out the high chromium content stainless steel. This corrosion resistance protects the metal from rust, keeping it looking and running smooth for years to come.  

Yep, you read that right. For the first time ever we have teamed up and we're working with the legendary Steve Mould! He came to us with this cracking challenge of remaking one of these spinning discs to see just how far we could push the idea and what it would take to make it run for the longest time possible.

After over a year of fiddling around and countless CNC machined prototypes, we finally nailed it and became at one with the disc!
