Why Have We Created MetMo Pen?
We set out to create the ultimate fidget pen. We were fascinated by the engineered dual-threaded diamond screws that have been used since the start of the century, and the mesmerising effect they give when two nuts can spin in both directions, so we set to work to capture this magic and combine it with a solid writing implement.
The Result?
The first functional diamond thread that you can actually buy!
Who's it For?
Made for designers, engineers, thinkers, and tinkerers. Anyone who wants to just take a moment to focus, relieve stress or just play around. Writing an essay by hand (at least that's how we did it back in my day) is taxing on the metacarpus, but MetMo Pen provides instant relief both physically and mentally.
Super Hard Wearing
Machined from solid metals with a custom shallow angle thread, MetMo Pen just refuses to stop working. The increased pitch of the threads give them much more root material, making them incredibly strong when pitted against everyday drops and vehicular encounters.
We've also built in a nice tolerance between the pen and nuts which, coupled with the huge thread engagement, means your MetMo Pen can survive even the most brutal encounters with heavy machinery.
A Satisfying Object in More Ways Than One
Straddling the line between tool and toy, MetMo Pen serves perfectly as a quality everyday pen.
German Balls?
More than just a toy, this guy is designed to be a serious writing implement. A specially designed smooth-to-hold tip and a German engineered ballpoint makes this pen a joy to use. We use a traditional oil based ink and the quality of the cartridge ensures no blotting with a smooth line weight from the moment you put pen to paper.
Comfort Grip
Machined to a smooth tip, MetMo Pen is made to be comfortable to hold. Through many hours of testing we stripped back the texture just enough so that it gives a premium feel while writing.
Satisfying Tactile Feedback
The machined diamond pattern is more than just a knurled finish and gives instant pressure feedback to relieve those anxious fingers.... it's like a tiny massage for your hands; it sounds odd but it really feels good!
Solid Brass Nuts
Two precision machined nuts with a multi-start thread bring this design to life. Fiddle with a motion like no other as these two nuts spin opposite ways but move in the same direction! What!? Weird but so cool!
Perfectly Balanced Aluminium and Solid Brass
Precision machined and precisely weighted. MetMo Pen is in line with the finest writing implement you can buy, because we wanted this to be an excellent pen that is a joy to write with. We spent countless hours perfecting this so it feels totally natural to use.
Silky Smooth Ejection
More than just a toy, deez nuts can be used to eject the pen in a silky smooth and satisfying way. Hold the loader, pull down and watch the magic.
Satisfaction Zone
Simply sliding the nuts open and closed is huuuuuuugely fascinating and can keep you absent-mindedly fiddling for hours, with countless combinations to explore and scratch that satisfaction itch!
Brass Case
What pen is complete without a case?
We wanted to create a weighted case unlike any other that shows off the full dual-threaded nature. This is the perfect place to keep the pen looking great, while making a statement and an interesting talking point on your desk.
Each component is precisely formed using state of the art CNC machines. The complex geometry that allows the pen to perform its magic is slowly and precisely machined into the outer profile, one silky smooth thread at a time. The machine is then indexed 45 degrees and another thread is formed. This process is repeated six times. Once complete, the machine is switched over to create the anti-clockwise threads and the process begins all over again. I'm tired just typing this!
History of This Simple Mechanical Motion
What's so special about this thread, I hear you ask? Can't you just make it the same way you make a screw?
Well, the first thing is that diamond screws are not really screws at all! At least not the conventional way we think of screws, like the ones that hold chairs together. They are more akin to the Archimedes screw, that is a profile designed to achieve a specific job.
So, What's the Use of a Diamond Screw?
The earliest examples of diamond screws in use date back to 1892, where it was applied to a mechanical screwdriver during a period of fierce innovation started by Isaac Allard, and can still be found today. Although it has been heavily refined over the years with extra ratchets and features.
More on the Diamond Screw
Another variation of a continuous diamond screw was also invented in 1938 on the oil fields of Texas to handle winding and prevent damage to steel cables that, at the time, were a recent innovation. These are still in use all over the world today, mostly on ships and in industry where these cables are produced.
Outside of large industry, the double threaded profile does not feature in anything that you can buy due to the expense of manufacture and limited mechanical properties.
Our take on the mechanical principal has eight starting points, compared with a conventional two, and then stacked on top of each other to miniaturise the diamond pattern, so MetMo Pen is a combination of the diamond screw and a high torque ball screw used in machinery!
So, what's the deal? Why does it cost £139.99?
We always use the best materials we can get our hands on. We've used premium brass and hard anodised aircraft grade aluminium. Each part is individually machined in a laborious low volume production machine, then every part needs to be set up by hand and slowly cut to ensure the fine tolerances are maintained to make sure each part fits together perfectly. This all adds to the time and expense of making each pen.
We wanted to create a piece that was less mass-manufactured to allow a more unique design that could really capture the magic of the engineering involved.
MetMo Pen is only produced in small batches, which helps to maintain quality and ensure our unique designs last a lifetime.
Attractive, sleek and fully functional. Whether you're fiddling away or jotting down notes, this writing tool is a stress-reliever.
There is a tangible sense of quality to the touch with the MetMo Pen and, quite frankly, courtesy of its innovative design aesthetic, it might just be the most satisfying pen in the world to hold.
With its machined metal body (featuring the diamond-shaped dual thread design), the MetMo pen is as visually beautiful as it's tactile...
Its design is perfect for fidgeters, offering a tactile grip and doubling as a desk toy.

The pen flows very smoothly in and out of the pen case but the nuts do not flow as smoothly as shown in the video

Unique Ballpoint Pen
As a collector of pen, I find the Metmo Threaded pen truly outstanding. It is like nothing I ever saw before. Everybody in the office wants one. And it takes a easy to find Parker refill. Three Cheers to the mechanical genius of the Metmo team. I am sure they will be opening up shop in Mayfair some day.

Difficult to put down
It's a very satisfying pen to hold. I have sensory oversensitivity but the threading on the pen just feels phenomenal in the hands. Paired with the smooth movement from the brass nuts, it's difficult to put the pen down. I bought the case as well, which is always fun to watch as it spins off the pen. Love it, definitely going to order more from Metmo again. :)

The finest pen I’ve ever owned
The craftsmanship is stunning, every detail feels intentional and premium. Everyone who sees it is like, “Wow, that’s a nice pen!” It feels solid, looks amazing, and definitely gets people talking. Love it.

Wonderful milling
I’m very impressed with the threading in this pen. It’s a a true machining feat. It’s a great design, and I hope Metmo offers more options in the future. Pros: -Phenomenal milling-Great fidget factor-Very satisfying texture-Beautiful- very secure tip (almost no wiggle)Cons:-Very wide. It’s a beast, especially when you add the case.- nose cap / tip is too long. It could’ve been shorter, contributing to either a shorter overall length or a longer threaded body - the twist mechanism is too long- both internally and externally. The tip protrudes a bit too much imho when the mechanism is fully twisted. The end cap would’ve could’ve easily been shorter…perhaps with some gnurling added Overall, I like it. But I hope there’s more designs in the future.

Brass Pen Review
I absolutely love it. It feels perfect to write with. The weight, the tactile feel and the ease of writing all combine to create a wonderful instrument. When complimented with the spectacular engineering and novel ‘doodling’ features it is a joy to use!!! Too few people now even experience the joys of writing and defer to a keyboard, so to have such a lovely writing instrument makes it even more special.

Beautiful ,but not quite as premium as expected.
From all of the Metmo marketing on Social Media, I was expecting something really special when I ordered my Brass pen and for the most part this is the case. The packaging was super basic, this may be due to environmental considerations but I think that others do a much better job here, definitely not a premium feel. The pen itself looks great in brass and is clearly well designed It writes well and although it has a considerable heft to it, it is nicely balanced and comfortable to use. The two brass nuts are very stimulating to operate and provide a welcome distraction when circumstances permit. I was surprised however that the fit was not a little tighter/more precise as they rattle about on the threads. This may be down to the clever design with both a left and a right hand thread allowing them to move in opposite directions. I was also a bit surprised how easy it is to spin them right off of the end, some sort of a permanent stop at one end or perhaps some switchable stops would have been great as I am not a fan of crawling around on the ground looking for them or worse still, losing them. This review sound more negative than positive but hopefully the four stars that I have awarded shows that I really do like the product and the whole ethos of Metmo. I already have another product on order and have no regrets with my first purchase other than not having bought it sooner.

Why can I get my stuff. I already paid for it. It’s been a long time.
I’ve already paid for these just been quite a long time. Why would you ask me to review something when you can’t even get it to me?

Idea is good but the reality is not so good.
Unboxing went well, the feel of the machined part felt rough and unfinished, no smoothness was experienced in letting gravity do the un sheathing and nut winding. Was told it needed running in? Even when the protective wax tip cover was removed the pen only wrote a few inches before going dry only to re start after extensive coaxing. So over all, a less than satisfying experience.

Fiddling with your nuts at work
Own a multitude of pens. It this one has that pristine machined feel. Also I’ve never seen the dual thread system in play before and love how the nuts just slide over the pen

Heft & beauty
Watch the nuts spiral down as their weight simply sets them in motion. Or hold the nuts and spiral then in and out on the barrel of the pen. A real heft to this pen just feels right while the mesmerising motion keeps you engaged. Watch the MetMo video for ways you can use this pen to take your mind off other things. Another top product, beautifully engineered.

Outstanding fidget
MetMo executes its mastery over machining in this exemplar of a executive toy. My favorite interaction is how effortlessly the whole pen screws in and out of the brass case using only gravity. The twirling brass dazzles, and the sudden stop thuds with authority. The threads feel all the smoother after idly running the decorative nuts up and down the pen body. Certainly not the most practical pen for writing. But one would be hard pressed to find one more whimsical.

Substantial
The pen is substantial in size. It writes very smooth, but can be heavy in the hand. However I’ve written quite a bit with it, and it’s not gotten to the point that I felt like I had to sit it down to rest. To me, the nuta are a hindrance when writing so I take them off to do so. But really you buy this pen as a work of art, with the added use of a writing instrument. I love the complete beauty of the pen, and how absolutely unique the motion is. I got 2 nuts, and the case. I know when I pull it out that it’s going to be awhile before I get started on whatever task is at hand.

Satisfaction
I own the aluminium metmo and this brass one.I must say, both feel différent, i cannot say my favorite one, the brass one feel meatier, like you have something big in hand, very pleasant to both whrite and fidget. If you want something unique, while being useful, this is the thing ( or the aluminium Metmo )

Fun fidget/conversation piece; customer service great
Received mine after a small delay where I was delivered an empty box the first time around (not Metmo's fault!). Thankfully customer service was very responsive and I received the replacement no problem.Very fun fidget tool, including dropping it in and out of the brass case. Engineers I work with very interested upon seeing it. A double-threaded nut could be fun! It is very heavy for use as an everyday writer but satisfying to hold and roll around.

MIT Graduation Present 👨🎓 🎁
The Brass Pen is a technological marvel. My wife and I upped our cool factor when we gave our son the MetMo Brass Pen to our son for his MIT Graduation Present. The other parents were jealous! All the other graduates received presents from their parents but all (graduates & parents) gravitated to our Son’s Metmo Brass Pen. Whether for you or a gift, this is a “go beyond see to hold and play with/fidget” item. Off the charts 😎!
